Phil Savage - Limited Edition
Phil Savage, men’s gymnastics team coach in Knoxville, recently received a huge honor.

Phil’s talents go way beyond the Rings and Pommel Horse! He is quite handy with a camera as well! Each year the city of Knoxville hosts The Dogwood Arts Festival. This month long celebration helps to fund art education in local schools as well as highlight all aspects of the arts around the region. Each year a specific print is chosen as the Official Limited Edition Fine Art Print. This print also serves as the official image of the Dogwood Arts Festival for the year. It was Phil Savage’s panoramic image of an old Knoxville landmark that took the prize! It was also the first photo ever selected as the official print.
Phil has coached gymnastics for 3 decades, and is a member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. He received his bachelors in fine arts from Southern Illinois, and photography has been his hobby ever since. While he never planned on being a professional photographer, Phil has found a great balance between his hobby and his career as a gymnastics coach.
“What you see on TV in the Olympics, that’s artistic gymnastics. Each person tries to create a routine, and you add your own personality to it. What drives me in photography is ‘how do you take an ordinary picture and make it extraordinary?’”
He certainly has made his gymnasts extraordinary as well. Phil has helped several of his gymnasts receive full college scholarships. The print will be available for purchase both during the festival and online.
Congratulations to Phil Savage who always has “an eye for greatness”!
