Knoxville Gymnasts Compete at the Trampoline World Competitions in England

West High School senior, Kaylah Whaley, finished competition on November 20th in the Team Final of the women’s tumbling at the 28th Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships in Birmingham, England where team USA finished 4th behind China, Russia, and France.  Team USA moved up one place, over Great Britain, from the qualifying competition held on Friday.  This was Whaley’s first World Championship, the youngest on the USA women’s tumbling team.  No USA women’s tumblers qualified to Sunday’s individual final featuring the top eight in the world.

The 28th Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships also served as one of two qualifying competitions for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.  Tumbling is not one of the Olympic events, so Whaley was not eligible for qualification.   A total of 39 countries competed in this World Championship.  Whaley was the only Tennessee gymnast that qualified to participate.
