Knoxville Gymnast Wins Bronze Medal in France
West High School junior Kaylah Whaley won a bronze medal while representing the USA at the World Age Group Competitions for Trampoline and Tumbling in Metz, France. Kaylah, a member of the USA Senior National Team, competed in the 17-18 year old women’s tumbling division. She displayed difficulty that was far superior to that of any other competitor. Kaylah placed fourth in the qualification round, but moved up to capture 3rd place and the bronze medal in the finals. She qualified for this competition based on her results at the Visa Championships (USA Gymnastics National Championships) this past August in Hartford, Connecticut.
The World Age Group Competitions (WAGC) for Trampoline and Tumbling featured 650 total competitors from 34 nations. The competition was conducted in the same venue as last week’s World Championships.
Kaylah is coached by Eric Thomas. Her next major competition will be the Flip Fest Invitational at the Knoxville Convention Center on January 15th.
